Theatre entities tend to thrive off each other. Vincent Lancisi reminded me of this. It is why theatre seems to exist in districts. So when festivals occur, it’s no wonder they have a plethora of sponsors, including other artistic organizations.
Creative Convergence is one of those community celebrations that attempts to inform, interest and involve people in performance of various forms, using diverse mediums.
Four theatre organizations, three colleges—including MICA and Goucher—as well as other various organizations, are collaborating to present theatre, networking opportunities and workshops in assorted spaces throughout the Baltimore area.
Workshops are free. They cover numerous theatre techniques and are forms of community outreach. For example, at University of Baltimore, there is a workshop called “Community through Improvisation.” MICA houses a topic called “Speaking on Silence.” Topics also cover poetry, dance, and personal empowerment through theatre. The Creative Convergence website gives a synopsis of each workshop and performance, as well as information on where they are located.
I must admit, I think it’s fascinating how individual groups will come together for a cause they are passionate about. Not only do these groups offer workshops, they also offer performances at fair price. A unique attribute about Creative Convergence of the diverse range of theatric topics discuss that can broaden the horizons of all who partake.
